A complete educational programme of experiential action for water protection was implemented in the schools of Attica by the General Directorate of Waters/General Secretariat of the Natural Environment and Waters (GSNEW) of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy – YPEN. The educational programme of GSNEW achieved its goal of functioning as a complementary tool of the educational process by increasing the level of information and awareness for the implementation of good practices related to the saving and reuse of water. A key element of the programme was the experiential approach to knowledge, cooperative learning and interdisciplinary approaches. The educational initiative was designed in such a way as to enrich children’s knowledge about water management and strengthen their environmental awareness, allowing them to emerge as protagonists of change through the adoption of good practices aimed at sustainable development. A total of 57 educational environmental programmes were implemented, in which 1,218 students from Kindergarten to 6th grade of the Primary school (6-12 years old) participated in the presence of 80 teachers, within the schedule, from 23 October to 6 December2023. The educational programme worked in addition to the educational platforms “Epirroi”, for the calculation of the water footprint, and “Kalliroi”, a tool that contributes to smart water resources management. Sympraxis, as the communication contractor of the “Information and Communication Actions” project of the GSNEW, undertook the overall implementation of the training programme on behalf of the YPEN.
