Facing the grim reality of the 700 million undernourished people worldwide and the 40% of food produced being wasted at some stage of the supply chain, the RETASTE: Rethink Food Waste conference urges us to reexamine the way we treat our precious food and the natural resources which are wasted before it reaches our plate. The RETASTE international hybrid conference, aiming at reducing food losses and managing food waste through innovative methods supporting circular economy, took place on 20 and 21 October 2022 at the premises of the Hellenic Mediterranean University (EMU) in Heraklion, Crete, with the participation of more than 200 delegates from all over the world. The presentations and conclusions of the conference were complemented by the Smart Innovation Symposium (SIS#2), which highlighted the importance of research and innovation in the operation and development of small and medium-sized enterprises, with the participation of more than 90 delegates, expert scientists, company executives, representatives of State and Regional Authorities, as well as bodies working in the field. Both the conference and the symposium were organised for the second consecutive year by the Hellenic Mediterranean University, the Harokopio University of Athens and Sympraxis, with the support of the Green Fund, under the auspices of the Ministry for the Environment and Energy.
