The voluntary clean-up action of Hellas Gold at the Kouri Beach in Chalkidiki, which was planned and implemented by Sympraxis, was carried out with great success on Sunday 24 May 2026. The action aimed to protect the area’s coastal and marine ecosystems. A total of 36 volunteers –Hellas Gold employees together with their families- collected 1,120 kg of waste from the coastal zone, of which 30 kg were plastics, while 13% of the collected materials were sent for recycling. The main sources of pollution turned out to be plastic bottles and aluminum cans, while 9 tires were also recovered. There were also some special finds, such as a surfboard and a broken tablet. The evidence showed that 88% of the waste came directly from visitors to the area and only 12% had been carried to the beach by the sea. A special moment of the day was the rescue of an injured swallow by a volunteer, which was safely transported to the “Action for Wildlife” organization. The initiative ended with an open discussion among the participants, who shared their impressions and concerns about environmental protection, confirming that each piece of collected waste is an essential step towards preserving wildlife and a cleaner planet.
