By its 2nd birthday, the oPEN Lab project counts significant achievements, among which the set up and management of three Positive Energy Neighbourhood (PEN) Living Labs, extensive citizen engagement and co-creation activities, development of digital energy twins, an overview of >50 innovations, set up of energy communities, policy analysis for PEN roll-out, and renovation works, both off-site and on-site, kick-started in Pamplona and Genk!

All this, and more, was celebrated with project partners on 3&4 October 2023 in Tartu, Estonia, during the project’s 5th General Assembly meeting. Further discussions addressed business models and financing opportunities, technical solutions, Key Performance Indicators and monitoring, but also broader contexts like the EU policy landscape, emphasising collective self-consumption and renewable energy communities, just transition in urban areas, and the integration of renovation processes throughout the energy value chain.

The event was complemented with a site visit to the innovative, newly built heat storage facility of the city of Tartu, and a walking tour through the oPEN Living Lab Tartu in the Annelinn district.
