Sympraxis Team designed and implemented the waste recycling system on behalf of PAPASTRATOS at the company’s offices and production facility in Aspropyrgos, Attica, during the period from February to June. In the context of the programme’s #zeroplastic pillar, the goal is to minimise the usage of single-use plastics in the work environment – bottles, glasses, food packaging. To achieve this goal, Sympraxis Team focused on the company’s renovated restaurant –as it plausibly is the ‘hotspot’ of plastic waste production–, which now offers alternative ways of serving food and water, e.g., water in glass bottles, sugar cane food packaging, etc. Employees are encouraged to use reusable packaging when ordering in the restaurant. Furthermore, they have been given a handy, practical kit of reusable items, which helps raise awareness on their use on a daily basis –straws, cutlery set, and glass/thermos. A thousand such sets were distributed, together with a corresponding number of information brochures on the objectives of the programme, the importance it plays in achieving the company’s commitments as they derive from the Sustainability Strategy, as well as the critical role of the active participation of all employees for the programme’s success. A total of 225 bins for paper recycling and 36 recycling stations for packaging of plastic, glass, aluminum, and other materials were installed, as well as 8 recycling bins for small electrical/electronic devices, lamps and batteries. All these were installed according to needs, in kitchens and relaxation areas, offices and meeting rooms. More than 1,000 employees have access to the company’s recycling system and have been trained in the proper management of recyclable materials. Sympraxis Team also undertook the training of 30 individuals of the cleaning company staff, while overseeing the design and production of the recycling programme management manual and of related tools for monitoring the programme’s progress. With the slogan TOGETHER WE TAKE CARE OF THE ENVIRONMENT, the programme is based on the following axes:
REDUCE – More and more employees avoid single-use plastics in their daily lives.
REUSE – More and more employees use alternatives of reusable containers/packaging.
RECYCLE – More and more, the employees make sure that the already reduced waste produced is recycled in a correct and efficient way.
