On 26 and 27 September 2024, Sympraxis organised the first Policy Lab titled “Leveraging Culture for Positive Urban Change” on behalf of the European Urban Initiative (EUI). The event took place at the facilities of the Zisi Ethnomusicological Institute in the center of Chalandri, bringing together more than 100 participants, including city representatives, experts and stakeholders from across Europe. The Conference aimed at sharing knowledge and experiences regarding the use of culture and cultural heritage as catalysts for sustainable urban development. Practical applications and examples that strengthen social cohesion, environmental upgrading and quality of life in urban areas were examined through presentations, workshops and discussions. Participants had the opportunity to study examples from European programmes, such as Urban Innovative Actions (UIA), URBACT, and other relevant EU initiatives. The Policy Lab highlighted the need for effective exchange of knowledge between cities, helping to empower local authorities to harness cultural assets.
