Since 2024, Sympraxis has been supporting Metlen Energy & Metals in strengthening the ESG capacity of its supply chain through a structured training series entitled “Responsible Business for Sustainable Development.” Initiated by Metlen’s Corporate Governance and Sustainable Development Division, the program equips suppliers with tools to align with international ESG standards and meet rising regulatory expectations.

The 2024 cycle, delivered in Greece, was built on the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, which formed the foundation of the training material. Suppliers were introduced to the fundamentals of ESG while receiving an in-depth overview of the regulatory framework, including the CSRD, the CSDDD, the EU Taxonomy, and both the European and Greek Climate Laws. The training highlighted the connection between ESG criteria and these frameworks, supported by practical learning methods.

The 2025 cycle, expanded to suppliers from Europe and Asia, again drew on the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact as its backbone. It placed stronger emphasis on due diligence practices, the OECD Due Diligence Guidance, and Occupational Health & Safety. A key theme was the importance of ESG reporting, with particular reference to the VSME voluntary standard for SMEs, alongside discussions on the proposed EU regulatory changes under the Omnibus package. Both cycles consistently highlighted how ESG criteria interlink with specific standards and frameworks, ensuring suppliers gain clarity on expectations and practical applications.

Together, the training cycles not only enhance supplier readiness but also act as a strategic lever for advancing corporate sustainability. By embedding ESG thinking across its supply chain, Metlen contributes to more resilient, transparent, and future-ready ecosystems.
