Communications Services Manager / Press Coordinator
Maria is a main collaborator of Sympraxis Team since 2007. She has more than 25 years of experience as Journalist and Copywriter, as well as Press Officer, Fundraiser and Project Manager for environmental and social non-governmental organisations. Her prior work experience with NGOs includes her work as Communication Manager for ELIX-Conservation Volunteers Greece (2005-2007) and ActionAid Greece (2003-2005), private sector fundraiser and public awareness manager for MOm, the Hellenic Society for the Study and Protection of Monk Seal (1999-2002) and Supporter Services Manager for Greenpeace Greece (1994-1998). She has also collaborated with several magazines and newspapers as cultural, educational, environmental and social reportage editor, as well as with radio channels as radio broadcaster for artistic Greek music radio programmes (1988-1995). She holds a BA in Journalism and Greek Civilisation.
Her collaborations include the proposal, promotion and implementation of several communication projects for environmental and social organisations funded from Public Sector, Private Sector and Foundations. She has coordinated the Adamantiada project promoting the dental health of children in primary schools of Athens for Medecins du Monde Greece, the “1 against racism” campaign for the UNHCR Office in Greece, “Choros” Programme, an information system about urban planning and sustainable development addressed to local authorities/Central Union of Municipalities in Greece, the “Equal” Programme “Green” employment in Eastern Attica/ELIX, as well as several National Youth meetings for Contemporary Social History Archives/Identity of Greek and European Citizen, Organization Earth/Sustainable Agricultural Production, Schooligans/Students Rights, ANIMA/Young Correspondents for Wildlife and Youth for Nature.
She considers that Art can have a significant influence on important social issues. Having this basic motivation, she is among the co-founders of the Cultural Organization Kochili that works with social issues in the theater. She has also a great interest for the role of active citizen and she has worked a lot with groups running cultural, social and environmental projects. She considers her role at Sympraxis Team as a unique opportunity for networking that can reinforce the social growth in a sustainable way.
